Yesterday I ticked off one major bucket list item by going skydiving –or more accurately I was strongly persuaded to jump out of a plane against my infinitely better judgement!

We had to go to the tour company’s office first thing in the morning so I set my alarm for 6.30 in the morning which it turns out was a pointless endeavour as I was up an hour before that in a cold sweat panicking about what I would do on my last on this earth!

We then got to the hangar which looked more like a disused waste transfer station to be confronted with the smallest plane I’ve ever seen which was going to take me to what I became convinced was going to become my final destination.

There was then what felt like a remarkably long wait as we had to sit around waiting for our turn as the plane could only take 3 people up at a time. The others I was with were remarkably calm sitting having something to eat whilst I was pacing up and down for an hour praying that this wasn’t going to be the end.

It was then finally time to get harnessed up and get into the plane. I just kept staring out the window in a state of perpetual shock at how high we were going and didn’t utter a single word until Izak said it was our turn and we leaned out of the plane and jumped.

There was an instant change of emotion from fear to exhilaration as you hurtle down for 30 seconds of free falling experiencing the most incredible adrenaline rush I’ve ever felt. You would expect this to be the scariest part but by this point all fear had left me and I was just enjoying the most incredible natural high.

Then the parachute opens and you go from exhilaration to serene as you feel like a bird slowly floating down in silence.

Well it would have been if it wasn’t for me spending the next 5 minutes in hysterical laughter as I couldn’t get over what I had just experienced and the rapid changes of emotions. Others I was with said they could hear me laughing from the ground and I can believe it!

The landing was nowhere near as strenuous as I anticipated as I landed with only a slight stumble which was largely because I was still laughing.

My friend Brecken took this video as I couldn’t even talk to her when I got off due to me incessantly laughing as I was struggling to take in what had just happened!

It truly was one of the most memorable experiences of my life and I am so glad I was persuaded to jump!
